Narendra Modi, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 (Resolution 69/131). This day is now celebrated worldwide to raise awareness of yoga’s physical, mental, and spiritual benefits.
Yoga is an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual discipline that originated in India. The word “yoga” comes from Sanskrit and means “to join” or “to unite,” symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. A truly transformative practice, yoga harmonizes mind and body, balances thought and action and connects discipline with inner peace. It offers a holistic approach to well-being, integrating body, mind, spirit, and soul while bringing calm and clarity to our fast-paced lives.
As the legendary yogi B.K.S. Iyengar said:
“Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.”
Everyone! This free, family-friendly event is open to all and proudly organized by the St. Louis Indian Cultural Association (SLICA) in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, Chicago, and Indian organizations from across the St. Louis region.
From 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM on 21st June
